Ideas For Cookouts – The Movie Party

You’ve heard of Memorial Day cookouts, Fourth of July cookouts, and general summer cookouts for family and friends. Cookouts have usually revolved around enjoying the summer outdoors in the company of family and friends, along with music, games, and theme-appropriate decorations.

If you are looking for a novel way of organizing a cookout, you could throw in an outdoor movie screening along with it. The barbecue movie party would be a throwback to the old drive-in movies that a lot of us remember. Only, instead of carrying supplies of side dishes or drinks to the cookout, your guests would need to bring along their own blankets, pillow, or lawn chairs.

As for the host, you would have to arrange for the outdoor theater apart from the food, grill supplies, chips, beans, and drinks. A tip for those considering the movie cookout would be to keep the food simple and concentrate on the movie experience. Also, keep the grilling area a distance away from the movie area to avoid any burn accidents.

First the projector system – what you will need is a movie projector of any type, a screen, small sound system, and the movie to go with it. Be sure to pick a movie that is suitable to families. To add “special effects” to your movie event, have bags of fresh buttery popcorn for the kids. You could even set up a candy corner on a small table for them to pick out their favorite chocolate or gummy treats.

When you arrange your movie theater area, plan to have enough space to spread out blankets so no one feels cramped. When guests arrive, help them to position blankets and chairs towards the screen area. Your screen could be a conventional projector screen, a white sheet, or even a white wall of your house or garage. Surround sound systems are usually inexpensive and easy to obtain. However, it is best to set up and test the equipment a day in advance so there are no last minute glitches. You’ll also be able to check that you have all the cables and drop cords you need. Do have a back up plan in case of unexpected rain showers. And very importantly, if the movie is noisy, warn your neighbors in advance.

So, go ahead, get the grill going – but this time, set up the projector and hire the movie for a gala event!

Home Automation System

Believe it or not, the age of the Jetsons lies just around the corner. We may not have robots and computers performing every menial task from cooking dinner to dressing us for work, but a home automation system brings the future a little bit closer. A home automation system gives us the ability to control the electronic devices in our homes from wherever we are. Today’s technology makes it possible to turn on your air conditioner or heater, pan a surveillance camera through your living room, or even record your favorite TV show from anywhere in the world.

How does a home automation system work?

Three components comprise a home automation system: structured wiring, a connection center, and a computer-like microprocessor. Professional installers run the structured wiring throughout your home to the various hubs located in the connection center. The connection center, which is the nucleus of your home automation system, houses the microprocessor and connects it to the numerous hubs. The home automation system microprocessor allows you to operate the various home electronic systems and appliances wired into your home automation center from: touch screens, wireless remote controls and keypads anywhere in the world via the Internet.

What are the possibilities with a home automation system?

In today’s day and age, we go 100 mph, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The more packed our calendars get, the shorter the days seem. A home automation system rids our lives of tedious tasks that seem to take up more and more of our time. The example below shows how a home automation system can simplify your life.

You’re getting ready to leave work on Friday afternoon, and you start to think about your day.

(1) dropped kids at school/daycare at 7:30 a.m.

(2) hit the gym at 7:45 a.m.

(3) got to the office at 9 a.m.

(4) drove to the cleaners on your lunch break

(5) had 45-minute parent-teacher conference at 1 p.m.

(6) pick up kids at 5 p.m.

(7) cook dinner for your in-laws at 8 p.m.

Now, imagine right before shutting down your computer at work you log onto your home automation system, click an icon, and your home air conditioner turns on. You can also see on the monitor, via your security cameras, that you forgot to start the dishwasher and washing machine. Clicking another icon starts them both.

While sitting in traffic, you open your PDA (Personal Digital Assistants) and hit a button, which turns on your oven to preheat. You also realize it’s getting dark, so punching another button turns on your front-porch lights. When you turn into your neighborhood, you click your wireless remote, and your home automation system turns on the garage lights and opens the door, disables your security system, starts a pot of coffee brewing, and begins playing your favorite jazz song over your audio system.

The appliances you depend on and the activities you enjoy in your home become stress-free and easier to manage when you install a home automation system.

Don’t Put Yourself in Debt For a Car

Although you might disagree, a car does not make a good investment. The minute your leave the dealership with your shiny, brand new vehicle, it already loses about 10% of the price you paid. A car is a consumer good, just like a TV, sofa, kitchen appliances, a vacation… something that will never earn you as much as you initially paid for it. That is why it is a bad habit to lease or loan for a car.

Sadly our society considers borrowing money for a car or leasing it more or less standard these days yet it has quite significant disadvantages. So before you are persuaded by the sales guy to take a closer look at that larger model, consider this:

Most people tend to spend more on a car when they take out a loan then if they would have bought it cash because they don’t immediately feel the price difference: “I only pay $100 more for this larger model”, but they forget that those $100 extra translates to over $5000 added to the total cost of the car.
You don’t need a larger car or those extra options. In our society a car is often a status symbol, don’t give in to this! You only have to satisfy your own needs, not the expectations of everyone else.
A larger or more expensive car also means higher insurance fees and often higher taxes. Not to mention that they usually also use more gas. All of this together further increases the total cost of your car.

If you can’t afford to pay for a new car cash, then don’t buy a new car. For the average family a used car fulfills their needs at a much lower price. Buying a used car does take some research, but if you do your homework you can find a quality one that’s not only less expensive in purchase price, but will also cost you less on insurance and possibly on property tax.

If you are thinking of leasing a car, then stop thinking. Leasing a car is even more expensive than borrowing for a new car. Leasing a car is essentially the same as renting a car. And we all know how rentals are treated, that’s why they are so expensive. There is no reason why you as an individual would want to lease a car since it can easily add 50% to the cost of the car compared to buying it cash.

While looking for home theater projection systems, many people are astounded at the high price of most units. However, there are many avenues available for people to find projection units, often at well under one thousand dollars.

While some of the manufacturers offer brand new units for less than one thousand dollars, is this always the best way to look at projector units? It depends on what the individual users needs are. Some people feel more comfortable having a brand new projection unit with a warranty and service readily available for their purchase. While most of the projectors available for this price are smaller units, designed mostly for media displays such as presentations, some home theater projection units are actually for the same low prices. This is definitely an option to explore. What if that projector does not meet the requirements of the user though? What are some of the other options available?

One of the easiest and most popular ways to get an affordable, high quality home theater projection system for under $1000 is through the use of online auctions. While there are specific concerns directly related to online auctions, with some care and consideration by the buyer some very good deals are available here. If the prospective buyer is adequately armed with the proper information, this can be a very good route to explore in depth.

Another viable alternative to otherwise high priced projection units is the Do It Yourself or DIY projector. With a little bit of know how, and some time and effort to put forth towards a worthy goal, it is possible to build a home made projection unit for the home theater system. Parts are readily available from an ever widening pool of resources and the actual technical know-how is not as intensive as it may seem. For many self-proclaimed handy men, this can be an ideal option. It will give the builder a productive outlet for their skills and a unique and distinct sense of pride when their friends come over to view the large screen home theater system that has been custom built by the user.

A variation of the Do It Yourself projector is the pre-made projector. While the concept is relatively new, it has become increasingly popular and an affordable alternative to the high priced new systems. Most of the companies that sell projector parts, whether new or used, get discount prices by purchasing the products at a wholesale rate.

While it is not feasible for most people to even think about going out and purchasing parts by the truckload, they can still benefit from the pre-made projectors. These same companies also realized very quickly that not everybody is capable of putting together a home made theater projection system. They had the technology, the manpower and the parts to alleviate this problem. While the specifications may vary, pre-made projectors are put together in a factory setting by qualified technicians. More often than not these will even come with some form of limited warranty. This can be a very popular option for those individuals not as singularly qualified for the more technical aspects of projector construction.

Whatever path is chosen, there are many ways to get a good quality home theater projection system for less than one thousand dollars.
